Laura Pifer is an inspiration to sewists and creative types everywhere. The founder of Trash to Couture shows us amazing re-designs of mundane or discarded pieces every week that make us want to create something. Her work is a beautiful example of the what people hope for as they embrace a handmade, maker perspective and begin to find ways to hand-craft their own treasures.

Laura explains her background and motivation in designing,  “A DIY gal since I was a girl…learned to sew in middle school and immediately started making my own designs. Started Trash to Couture to share my sewing projects with a glimpse of the before and after process.  I also include one-of-a-kind DIY sewing tutorials. I hope to inspire and share ideas to provide a less wasteful approach to the mass-produced fashion mainstream.”

If you are a seasoned maker or a beginner who wants to dive in and try your hand at design and diy, check out Trash To Couture to get your juices flowing. Laura also has tutorials on some of her simpler creations.
